About The Position

The Safety Specialist role at Kubota is an opportunity to support behavioral-based safety systems, cultures, and processes for the North American Distribution Center in Edgerton, Kansas. This distribution center consists of two 1-million square foot buildings, one for wholegoods, and the other for parts. As such, the Safety Specialist is the go-to in all things safety within their assigned wholegoods facility, and functions as a back-up for the parts facility. In this role you would collaborate with other Distribution leadership, Human Resources, and other Kubota entities to develop strategic plans which will reduce workplace injuries. The Safety Specialist conducts daily, weekly and monthly departmental and facility audits, assessments, recordkeeping, and reporting to lead, implement and sustain safety processes for Kubota.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Safety Management, or related field preferred:
  • With a degree at least 4 years of experience in a similar safety role.
  • In lieu of a degree at least 7+ years of experience in a similar safety role.
  • Knowledge of the distribution and logistics industry, preferred
  • Forklift and some powered equipment experience required.
  • Knowledgeable with Powered Industrial Vehicles rules and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA general industry regulations.
  • Safety Certifications. i.e. ASP or CSP preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform risk assessments and apply effective safety hazard control and activities including inspections.
  • Ensure annual OSHA compliance by creating, reporting and reviewing safety records, compliance, and documents.
  • Develop and maintain a strong partnership with distribution leaders, front line supervisors, and improving employee's safety performance and behavior.
  • Investigates both near miss and work-related injuries, prepares reports to include corrective actions performing risk assessments, including root-cause analyses, and corrective actions. and implement a strategic plan to improve and control work-related incidents.
  • Ensure annual OSHA compliance to include reporting, contractor compliance, plan documentation, training and safety records.
  • Provide safety communications (postings, employee meetings, etc.).
  • PPE Management to include assessments, availability of supplies, vendor management and support.
  • Provide training support for all safety related topics.
  • Participate in government inspections from OSHA or other relevant agencies.
  • Develop a strong partnership with leaders, front line supervisors and leads to help improve employee's safety performance and behavior.
  • Able to handle stressful situations in a calm collective manner.
  • Able to manage themselves with minimal supervision.
  • Manage and measure employee's workers compensation injury claim.
  • Develop and monitor a return to work program.
  • Coordinate the monthly safety committee meetings.
  • Provide guidelines to management team on company policies and procedures, and methods to resolve employee safety issues.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
