About The Position

The primary objective of the Safety Specialist is to drive and nurture a culture of safety within the plant. This individual is responsible for all aspects of safety compliance, including the development of policies, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with current regulations and advance management’s strategic efforts in this area. This position reports to the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager (EHS).

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advance skills in Microsoft Suite
  • Comfortable with conducting training sessions and presentations.
  • Non-shift scheduling and may require working long hours and weekends from time-to-time as workload requires.
  • Estimated travel – 5% - among various locations, as required.
  • This position reports to the EHSQ Manager and is responsible for the support of the Safety and Health for the entire facility.
  • Must be able to work on the plant site. This is not a remote position.
  • Obtain knowledge of the plant Industrial hygiene requirements and needs.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.
  • The Safety Specialist must also possess the ability to: 1. Endure temporary periods of high heat exposure. 2. Wear a respirator.
  • Wear basic PPE such as a hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, industrial boots and FR clothing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the aluminum industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop proficiency with the ISO management systems.
  • Monitor self-assessed action plans.
  • Liaison between safety and environmental on common issues.
  • Assist Health and Safety Generalist.
  • Assist location supervisors with investigation of health and safety incidents.
  • Provide critical review of health and safety incident reports to ensure completion / root cause analysis / effectiveness of corrective actions and monitoring of corrective action status.
  • Coordinate special safety meetings.
  • Conduct housekeeping audits.
  • Assist with the management of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with management of the Incident Management System/SharePoint.
  • Serve as a member / leader of safety teams as assigned.
