About The Position

The Safety Specialist drives the implementation of environmental and safety policies across Findlay Operations. Reporting to the Sr. EHS Analyst – Environmental, the role is responsible for achieving critical Environmental and Safety goals through cross-departmental collaboration. By blending technical expertise with a mentorship approach, the specialist creates innovative, real-life solutions for plantwide EHS activities, ensuring both environmental compliance and a high standard of workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Reporting: Lead the collection of air, water, and waste compliance documentation. Take lead on EPA inspection readiness, maintain the environmental compliance calendar, and ensure all SOPs and SDS records are current.
  • Audit & Inspection Management: Conduct and track plantwide audits, including SMAT/EMAT (Safety/Environmental Management Audit Team), contractor compliance, LOTO (Lockout Tagout) procedures, and PIV/PIT permit verifications.
  • Training & Onboarding Excellence: Assist in leading the New Hire Orientation process and deliver specialized technical training, including LOTO, Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), Environmental Dojo, and Screen Guard safety and Working at Heights.
  • Continuous Improvement & Kaizen Leadership: Lead Kaizen projects to mitigate EHS risks and coach team members on the SEWO/EEWO (Safety/Environmental Emergency Work Order) process to ensure immediate root-cause analysis and action.
  • Waste & Sustainability Oversight: Assist in managing plantwide recycling and waste programs, tracking KPIs and coordinating with vendors to hit sustainability targets and maintain the "Blue Wall" visual management.
  • Data Management & EHS Software: Serve as the primary administrator for Gensuite (ENV), Resource Advisor and others to ensure all training logs, open items, and EHS metrics are accurately tracked and reported.
  • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration: Participate actively in PD (People Development), EEM (Early Equipment Management), and Engineering core teams to integrate EHS best practices into all plant projects and equipment changes.
  • Communication & Employee Engagement: Respond to employee EHS inquiries and suggestions promptly. Draft articles for site newsletters and maintain visual management tools (TV displays/Dojo) to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
  • WCM Pillar Leadership (ENV & SAF): Act as a key contributor for the Environmental and Safety pillars. This includes leading projects to meet goals, benchmarking, and preparing reports and data to find opportunity and show progress.
