The Safety & Security Officer is crucial to Neighborhood Healthcare's mission, creating a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role involves security patrols, incident prevention, and delivering compassionate, service-oriented support. It requires a proactive approach to risk mitigation, basic safety-related maintenance, and respectful interaction with diverse individuals. Security Officers act as ambassadors of safety and security, promoting a welcoming and secure environment across all clinics.

Requirements

  • Current active CA Guard Card required
  • One year’s experience as security officer or similar work experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment. These courses must follow AHA guidelines, but may be completed through approved online providers such as ProMed or other equivalent programs that meet recognized BLS standards.
  • Valid CA driver's license and proof of valid auto insurance required
  • Must have a personal cell phone to use for work (monthly stipend provided by NHC)
  • Personal vehicle to drive between sites (mileage reimbursement paid by NHC)

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in healthcare, public safety, or community service settings
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-visibility security patrols throughout clinical buildings, grounds, and parking areas to deter incidents, identify risks, deter theft, violence, and unsafe behaviors
  • Monitor and report potential safety hazards or environmental concerns (e.g., broken lights, spills, unsafe walkways)
  • Respond promptly and professionally to incidents involving patients, visitors, or staff, and conduct thorough and timely documentation
  • Follow established safety protocols and organizational procedures in all interactions and decisions
  • Make decisions according to proper policies and procedures
  • Always remain alert and visible to provide a reassuring presence to patients, staff, and visitors
  • Enforcement of access control policies, visitor screening, and facility protocols in a respectful, culturally sensitive manner
  • When requested, escort employees, visitors, or patients to vehicles or destinations, especially in low-light and high-stress situations
  • Complete Security Event Log (SEL) entries thoroughly and promptly after incidents or observations
  • Greet and assist patients, employees, and guests in a professional and courteous manner
  • Escort patients in need using facility-provided wheelchairs and ensure safe transport to and from entrances
  • Perform occasional basic maintenance tasks without compromising security responsibilities when safety or cleanliness is compromised
  • Report any unsafe conditions to safety/security leadership
  • Follow all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries/unsafe conditions immediately
  • Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safety work practices
  • Be knowledgeable of each site's fire extinguishers, emergency exits, evacuation routes, and utilities shut offs
  • Follow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogens protocols
  • Maintains privacy of all patients, participants, employees and volunteer information and access to such information for official purposes only
  • Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and safety/security obligations
  • Report on all behavior, activity that is unethical, fraudulent or unlawful to safety and security management
  • Serve as a role model for professionalism, customer service, and safe conduct across all sites
  • Travel between Neighborhood Healthcare sites for training, event support, critical incident response and other operational needs
  • Demonstrate compassion, integrity, and cultural sensitivity in every interaction
  • Help create a welcoming and caring environment for those we serve
  • Support the organization’s mission by promoting safety that reinforces trust, equity, and access to care
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor that instills confidence in patients, visitors, and staff
  • Participate in regular safety and security training, including de-escalation, emergency preparedness, and healthcare compliance
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to sites for operational needs
