About The Position

This position provides site safety leadership to ensure facility compliance with corporate and subsidiary safety standards, implementation of safety directives, improves safety performance, and ensures facility safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations. Develops plant safety and health programs and coordinates safety training programs. Facilitates a work environment that supports a proactive, positive safety culture. In an Insulating Glass Manufacturing facility, the Safety Manager fosters trust by working with all individuals in production, maintenance and office to address concerns and hazards firsthand. Visibility and access to all associates and follow-through helps build strong relationships. As a member of the Plant Manager’s Staff, the SM shares responsibility with other managers for setting the plant’s vision and performance metrics, establishing clear expectations supported by training, and holding associates and departments accountable for their performance and work process. The SM contributes and collaborates with our IG Safety Director and IG Safety Manager team to develop and implement Plant improvements. The SM must demonstrate a solid work ethic through diligent effort, availability, involvement and good decision making.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) four-year University, preferred or Associate’s degree two-years in Occupational Safety & Health; and three to five years related experience and/or training in general industry safety or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
OSHA 10/30 Hour General Industry Outreach Trainer.
First Aid/CPR/AED or EMR Certification.

Nice To Haves

SMS, GSP, ASP, or CSP credentialing through the BCSP preferred or willing to obtain in reasonable period.
Obtain Qualified Special Government Employee (SGE) within VPP program.

Responsibilities

Promotes safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all State, Federal, Local regulations, and company requirements.
Identify better practices and lead continual improvement initiatives, reducing work process risks, raising safety awareness, and operationalize safe work practices.
Attend, lead or participate in all required company safety training programs as needed.
Participate in IG company incident review calls, Quarterly safety meetings and other company projects as needed.
Must be able to support all shifts (1st shift, 2nd shift, 3rd shift and weekend shift) as needed.
Conduct Job Hazard Analysis; PPE Hazard Analysis; Ergonomic Assessments; Risk Analysis and implement improvements in the plant.
Ongoing VPP support/improvement projects including annual reporting.
JHA development and sustainability.
Conduct research as needed.
Maintains safety records, including training records, safety data sheets, chemical inventory, incident investigations, and metrics.
Update OSHA recordkeeping information in Velocity.
Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
Continuous improvement in safety is a must.
Identifies and corrects potential hazards and ensures best practice with health and safety standards.
Completes Change Management documentation for new equipment installations and relocations including machine guarding assessments, ergonomics, review of lockout/tagout procedures, etc.
As needed, the SM will support accurate and in-depth incident investigations, coach those responsible when improvement needs to be made and review all reports.
Ensure the proper job and safety training is provided for all associates.
Manage new and ongoing worker's compensation claims, to include on and offsite case management and returns to work (RTW).
Developing any new Job Safety Analysis/PPE hazard assessments as needed.
Develop and conduct new hire safety orientation training.
Update documentation with each incident investigation as needed and perform regular reviews.
As needed, the SM must be available and attend or assist in any plant injury onsite or at the local clinics with our associates.
Participate in, and function as, a resource for safety related meetings and/or committees.
Coordinate monthly safety meetings (includes plant wide meetings and other related safety meetings).
Attend Leadership meetings and trainings as assigned.
Regular and reliable attendance.
Other duties as assigned.
