About The Position

The Maintenance & Safety Technician plays a vital role focused on maintaining safety and operational standards. This position requires attentive and proactive action in ensuring that equipment, tools, and facilities are kept in optimal working condition and comply with strict safety regulations. The technician is responsible for routinely inspecting, assessing, and performing necessary repairs or adjustments to equipment to prevent potential hazards or disruptions. Additionally, they must ensure that all facilities meet industry standards and comply with legal requirements by conducting regular safety audits and implementing necessary improvements. This role involves a steadfast commitment to promoting a safe working environment while enhancing operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school plus job-related course/certification or equivalent training and/or experience, with focus on mechanical and technical.
  • 3+ years of previous maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems maintenance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Outlook.
  • Independent, self-starter with exceptional communication (written and verbal) skills, detail-oriented, organized, and able to prioritize and balance department workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA Safety Standards and Regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret English written documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and basic cleanroom production.
  • Good understanding of press machines and associated equipment.
  • Basic understanding of different polymers, foils, and materials.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and circuits.
  • Basic understanding of quality methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locate the source of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools, examining form and texture of parts.
  • Inspection of completed preventative maintenance (PM) according to PM schedule to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Controls downtime by informing planning and production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Evaluates production tooling and coordinates retooling when necessary.
  • Cleans production tooling and manages its inventory.
  • Oversees outside contractors that provide facilities/maintenance/equipment services.
  • Ensures the correct scheduling of vendors/contractors to maintain the comfort of staff while needed work is accomplished and follow up as needed.
  • Compiles, documents, communicates, and verifies information according to established procedures.
  • Coordinates preventive maintenance program within the confines of an annual budget. This includes all heating, air conditioning, as well as maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections as required to ensure safety compliance.
  • Consistently communicate to leaders any safety-related concerns and best practices.
  • Help promote a culture that encourages safe behavior for all team members and reinforces the achievement of safety goals and objectives.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains good attendance in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Other responsibilities based on business needs.
