About The Position

The Night Shift Safety Lead supports the Safety Manager in executing the facility’s safety strategy during off-shift operations within a steel tube manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and plant-specific safety procedures. The lead serves as the primary on-shift safety resource, driving daily safety audits, enforcing established policies, identifying hazards, facilitating corrective actions, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required, associate’s degree in occupational safety or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of safety experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations applicable to heavy manufacturing.
  • Experience with safety audits and hazard identification.
  • Ability to work independently during night shift operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and reporting systems.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification (General Industry).
  • Experience in steel, tube, pipe, or metals manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-shift safety representative.
  • Enforce compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
  • Monitor high-risk activities including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work, powered industrial truck operations, and overhead crane operations.
  • Conduct safety observations and intervene when unsafe acts or conditions are identified.
  • Partner with supervisors to ensure consistent application of safety rules and disciplinary procedures when required.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled safety audits of production lines and maintenance activities.
  • Inspect PPE compliance, machine guarding, housekeeping, and emergency equipment.
  • Verify completion of pre-shift equipment inspections.
  • Document audit findings and track corrective actions through completion.
  • Escalate critical hazards immediately to the Safety Manager and Operations leadership.
  • Respond to on-shift injuries, near-misses, and property damage incidents.
  • Assist in conducting root cause investigations using structured methodologies.
  • Ensure timely documentation and reporting of incidents.
  • Monitor implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Facilitate or support shift-level safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Reinforce safe work practices during shift startup meetings.
  • Coach employees on hazard recognition and risk mitigation.
  • Support onboarding safety orientation for new night shift employees.
  • Promote employee participation in safety programs and reporting systems.
  • Identify trends in audit findings and incidents.
  • Recommend process or engineering controls to reduce risk exposure.
  • Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in cross-functional safety improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining safety performance metrics and reporting.
