The food safety technician is responsible for ensuring that all processes meet food safety and quality standards. This role focuses on monitoring production to verify compliance with regulations such as HACCP, GMP, and FSMA, while maintaining proper documentation of inspections and corrective actions. The technician checks raw materials and finishes products for quality and safety, oversees sanitation and allergen control, and conducts sampling for microbiological and chemical testing. They also train staff in food safety practices, investigate incidents, and support traceability and recall procedures when necessary. Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent coursework and work experience in Food Science.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Quality Assurance, Food Safety, or Sanitation within Food/Beverage Manufacturing.
  • Certifications in PCQI, HACCP, and Internal Auditing.
  • Comfortable working on the production floor for extended periods with minimal office work.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Windows environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating professionally and effectively, and by accepting constructive feedback.
  • Excellent problem-solving, time management, and teamwork skills.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to food safety standards.
  • Solid knowledge of procedure implementation and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and meticulous work habits.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, some holidays, and cover different shifts as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as part of job requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensured products and raw materials met specifications and implemented corrective actions for any non-compliance.
  • Monitored control points including magnets, sifter tailings, and strainers to maintain process integrity.
  • Performed random CCP checks and reviewed records in compliance with PCQI requirements.
  • Conducted inspections to verify the integrity of equipment, utensils, and tools, addressing deficiencies promptly.
  • Verified proper color-coding practices to prevent cross-contamination and maintained traceability from raw materials to finished goods.
  • Performed GMP and Food Defense inspections during production shifts.
  • Conducted locker room audits to ensure proper use and compliance with hygiene standards.
  • Monitored rework processes to ensure product formulation and quality were not compromised.
  • Investigated foreign matter events, implemented corrective actions, and maintained trend reports for continuous improvement.
  • Validated cleaning during changeovers and start-up days to ensure sanitation standards were met.
  • Conducted glass and hard plastic inspections and ensured timely corrective actions.
  • Submitted, tracked, and validated compliance with corrective actions across all food safety processes.
  • Delivered food safety training to associates and supported internal audits.
  • Assisted in developing and implementing food safety procedures and programs.
  • Verified sanitation chemical titration and cleaning according to the Master Sanitation Program and validated prerequisite programs.
  • Maintained accurate and timely documentation of food safety and sanitation activities, including reports, logs, and records.
  • Supported the maintenance of the 5S program to promote workplace organization and efficiency.
  • Assist in investigating customer complaints and production nonconformities; implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Acted as Food Safety Supervisor during their absence and performed additional duties as assigned by management.
