Position Summary: The Safety Director is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, administration, and continuous improvement of Midwestern Mechanical’s safety program across all company locations and job sites. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on field engagement, regulatory compliance, incident investigation, training, and practical risk reduction. The Safety Director works closely with leaders, field operations and project management teams to ensure safe execution of work in our construction environments. Additionally, this role is responsible for compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, and local safety regulations. The Safety Director plays a critical role in fostering a positive work environment and must demonstrate strong leadership skills, work well in a team environment, and strive to enrich the Midwestern Mechanical safety culture and commitment to its core values and vision. Core Functions: Safety Strategy & Program Ownership Own and continuously improve Midwestern Mechanical’s company-wide Safety management system. Establish annual safety goals, performance targets, and improvement initiatives aligned with operational objectives. Develop, implement, and maintain all written safety policies, procedures, and programs. Ensure consistency of safety standards across all branches and job sites. Oversee jobsite audits, review safety program effectiveness, track safety trends, and drive corrective actions to completion to improve overall safety performance. Leadership & Accountability Serve as the company’s senior safety leader and subject matter expert. Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to integrate safety into pre-planning, daily coordination, and job execution. Mentor and develop field safety team and help supervisors understand and enforce safety standards. Lead and facilitate the company Safety Committee, including coordinating meetings, reviewing safety initiatives, and ensuring follow-through on recommendations. Promote culture of accountability, proactive hazard identification, and safe work practices. Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations. Prepare for and support inspections and audits. Manage and track OSHA logs, workers’ compensation documentation, and other required reports. Stay up-to-date on safety regulations and implement changes across the company. Incident prevention & Investigation Lead investigations for injuries, near-misses, property damage, and vehicle incidents. Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Track trends and implement company-wide improvements to prevent future incidents. Monitor and manage key safety performance indicators including TRIR, DART, EMR, severity rates, and near-miss reporting. Provide dashboards and monthly/quarterly reports to leadership with trends and improvement plans. Hazard Identification & Risk Control Oversee Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-task planning requirements. Identify high-risk activities and ensure appropriate engineering, administrative, and PPE controls are implemented. Conduct regular jobsite audits and safety assessments. Maintain emergency response plans and crisis management plans. Enforce consistent enforcement of safety expectations across all operations. Training and Workforce Development Develop and oversee comprehensive safety training programs for field and office staff. Ensure supervisors are trained in hazard recognition, incident response, and regulatory compliance. Conduct new hire safety orientation and ongoing supervisor training. Track certifications, training completion, and refresher requirements. Encourage participation in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and near-miss reporting.
