About The Position

Greiner Industries is seeking a skilled Safety Director to join our team. The Safety Director provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for all workplace health and safety programs across a multi-line organization that includes heavy steel fabrication, large crane rental operations, specialized road transportation services, and mechanical/industrial services. This role ensures regulatory compliance, drives continuous improvement in safety performance, and fosters a proactive safety culture across all locations and business units. The Safety Director oversees direct report(s) and supports a workforce operating in industrial, manufacturing, transportation, and field-service environments

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, industry standards (ANSI, ASME, AWS), and applicable DOT requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of crane safety, rigging, fabrication hazards, and industrial service operations.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify, evaluate, and control workplace hazards.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Proficient in incident investigation methods (TapRooT, 5-Whys, fishbone, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and implement effective safety policies and training materials.
  • Lead safety initiatives across multiple divisions and worksites.
  • Build strong relationships with shop employees, field employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Influence behavior and drive a culture of safety ownership and accountability.
  • Manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to urgent situations.
  • Analyze data, identify trends, and apply practical solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work in industrial and construction settings, including fabrication shops, job sites, and transportation yards.

  • 7–10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in industrial, construction, manufacturing, or heavy-equipment environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant work experience may be recognized in lieu of traditional education.
  • Professional certifications are strongly preferred: CSP, ASP, CHST, CRSP, or equivalent.
  • Experience in heavy steel fabrication, crane operations, transportation safety, and mechanical/industrial service safety management is highly desirable.
  • Experience supervising safety staff or leading cross-functional safety teams.
  • Demonstrated track record of improving safety performance and implementing large-scale safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company‑wide safety management system.
  • Establish annual safety goals, KPIs, and performance metrics for all operating divisions.
  • Lead company initiatives focused on risk reduction, injury prevention, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, MSHA (when applicable), ANSI, NCCCO, and relevant state/local requirements.
  • Maintain documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting per regulatory standards.
  • Direct internal and external safety audits; coordinate corrective actions.
  • Oversee safety programs for: Heavy steel fabrication: hot work, confined spaces, crane/rigging activities, lockout/tagout, material handling.
  • Crane rental operations: lift plans, operator certification, site safety assessments, equipment inspections.
  • Transportation services: DOT driver compliance, load securement, routing hazard assessments.
  • Mechanical/industrial services: installation, equipment movement, fall protection, machinery safety, contractor safety.
  • Support job hazard analyses (JHAs), safety planning, and field inspections for active job sites.
  • Develop and deliver training programs including OSHA topics, equipment operation, emergency response, hazard awareness, and leadership safety coaching.
  • Ensure crane operators, riggers, and signalpersons maintain required certifications.
  • Mentor supervisors and managers on implementing safe work practices.
  • Serve as a first responder providing first aid / guidance for employee’s illness/injury care.
  • Provide or serve as the automotive escort when appropriate or necessary for medical attention or drug and alcohol testing.
  • Lead investigations of injuries, incidents, and near misses; identify root causes and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Maintain and analyze incident data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through engagement initiatives, communication campaigns, and leadership visibility.
  • Partner with executives, operations managers, and field supervisors to align safety expectations with operational goals.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Adhere to federal, state and local laws.
  • Perform work safely, maintain a clean and organized work area, comply with and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, vendors and others in a courteous, respectful and professional manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
