About The Position

Under the direction of the Safety Coordinator Supervisor, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing safety protocols, assisting with safety planning for participants, staff and guests. This role involves direct and indirect contact with participants, developing safety plans, and practicing violence interruption. The candidate must have experience, knowledge, or understanding of trauma-informed approaches. The candidate will learn and use Cognitive Based Interventions and program curriculum when navigating challenges presented with participants, staff and guests.

Requirements

  • Two years' experience as a Security Guard or an active license as a trained Security Guard
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience
  • Experience, knowledge, or understanding of trauma-informed approaches
  • Will be required to obtain CPR and First Aide Certification after employment
  • Certification in safety and basic health training (i.e. Mental Health First Aid, First Aid and CPR) is a main requirement and can be completed within the first 90 days
  • Experience, knowledge, or understanding of violence interruption and a deep understanding of trauma-informed care
  • Experience working in an institutional setting and/or providing security services, monitoring safety equipment and cameras for any incidents throughout the program site
  • Skilled communicator able to liaise interdepartmentally and with community partners and stakeholders
  • Excellent judgment and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Experience and/or desire to work with a culturally diverse population

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Social Work/Criminal Justice/Public Administration or other life/professional experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Certified in CPR and First Aide a plus
  • De-escalation, Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing etc., training preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred, not required
  • Experience working with the community in the South Bronx is a plus
  • Relevant personal experience is a plus
  • Bilingual preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor safety protocols across the Atlas HOPE Program, ensuring that safety measures align with curriculum
  • Assists the Safety Coordinator Supervisor with execution of participant safety plans, focusing on harm reduction
  • To apply conflict mediation and harm reduction to staff, participants, and guests using CBI
  • Serve as a liaison between participants and external safety-related resources
  • Assist in safety planning for participants with staff to address the needs of all participants
  • Prepare and submit all documents in 24-48 hours of an incident and ensure that all the needed parties are notified and all safety protocols have been addressed appropriately
  • Attend regular team meetings and maintain open communication lines within the team and the broader community
  • Assist and monitor all participants entering and leaving the building
  • Regularly patrol administrative offices; and ensures a secure and safe building
  • Intervene in crisis situations and provide appropriate support when necessary; administers first-aid as needed
  • Monitor security cameras and weapon detection system
  • Supports Community Navigation team and/or Safety Coordinator Supervisor to conduct safety & wellness checks on participants, as needed
  • Assist with compliance monitoring activities and adherence to program regulations. Document the site log and inform the Director of any problems or concerns.
