The DNCR HR/Safety Division is seeking an enthusiastic team member to help establish and maintain a comprehensive environmental, safety and health program for DNCR! The primary role of this position is to provide environmental, safety and health services to the DNCR museums, aquariums, archeology, archives, library, and historic sites. This position will also support the NC Zoo and State Parks when needed. This position will travel and visit DNCR sites across the state to include overnight travel. Environmental, safety and health services include inspections, investigations, training, supporting safety committees, escorting authorities having jurisdiction (OSHA, DEQ, Fire Marshal), as well as other related services.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental, safety and/or health requirements/standards.
  • Demonstrated experience researching complex environmental, safety and/or health issues.
  • Demonstrated experience recognizing and analyzing environmental, safety and/or health issues.
  • Demonstrated experience developing solutions, permanent and interim, to environmental, safety and/or health issues.
  • Demonstrated experience with National Incident Management System.
  • Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps with or without reasonable accommodation is required.
  • Walking and hiking on steep inclines with or without reasonable accommodation are required.
  • Standing for sustained periods with or without reasonable accommodation is required.
  • Working outdoors in inclement weather is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift 20 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • NC Driver's License is required.
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in safety engineering, industrial engineering, industrial management or technology, occupational safety, OR one of the physical sciences OR an equivalent technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution AND A minimum of three years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate environmental, safety and health issues.
  • Analyze environmental, safety and health issues and provide solutions and interim measures if needed.
  • Provide environmental, safety and health related training.
  • Inspect sites for compliance with environmental, safety and health requirements.
  • Support the Safety Director in implementing a comprehensive environmental, safety and health program.
  • Ability to research and understand unusual and complex environmental, safety and health issues.
