About The Position

We are seeking a Safety Consultant to support the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) in advancing workplace safety initiatives. This full-time hybrid position offers an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in developing, implementing, and evaluating safety programs across PennDOT operations statewide. The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in occupational safety and health, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work independently while supporting various PennDOT offices and work sites. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week) with a hybrid work schedule, 3 weeks of paid time off (PTO), and 12 paid holidays annually.

Requirements

  • AIPP qualification as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (qualification link).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of occupational safety experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage tasks outlined in the PennDOT Safety Action Plan, including setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and tracking progress.
  • Develop, customize, and deliver health and safety training for PennDOT personnel—both in-person and virtually—to meet agency needs.
  • Conduct safety audits and assessments in accordance with the Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) and internal agency policies.
  • Analyze injury and illness data, prepare technical reports, identify trends, and make recommendations to reduce workplace incidents.
  • Support compliance efforts related to injury/illness prevention, industrial hygiene, and overall workplace safety.
  • Deliver on-site safety consulting services across PennDOT offices and worksites as needed.
  • Adapt quickly to changing client needs while maintaining high standards of customer service and professionalism.
  • Foster relationships across all organizational levels to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Travel to assigned worksites as needed, including periodic visits to Harrisburg, PA.
