The Safety Compliance Coordinator is responsible for providing safety leadership and direct support to assigned Business Unit(s). Role is tasked with developing, delivering, maintaining and validating the Business Unit and contractor adherence to safety policies, standards, rules and procedures. Role is expected to provide general oversight and support to Business Unit and contractor safety and operational personnel with an emphasis on safety culture and knowledge

Requirements

  • College degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field
  • 5-7+ years of related experience
  • Strong knowledge of leading practices for their practice area
  • Strong planning and project management skills
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner
  • Strong customer focus and employee experience mindset

Responsibilities

  • Champions a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee and contractor development, sense of belonging, customer service, and operational excellence.
  • Assist with implementing health and safety strategies, working cross-functionally with various team members, contractors, and business units.
  • Stays abreast of regulatory changes to ensure compliance with all applicable rules, laws and regulations.
  • Support (H&S) requirements as mandated by company policies, procedures, rules and regulatory agencies, including DOT and OSHA, for both employees and contractors.
  • Monitor workplaces and work activities to ensure safe work procedures and practices are being followed by employees and contractors.
  • Track, trend and report on leading and lagging indicators, including contractor safety performance.
  • Promote the organization’s safety culture ensures accountability and personal responsibility for the safety of its employees and contractors while maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Support and communicate accident prevention activities for employees and contractors as directed or needed.
  • Facilitate and / or assist in incident investigations involving employees and contractors to determine root cause(s).
  • Implement corrective actions as directed.
  • Assist in employee injury/illness case management as directed.
  • Perform safely observations and assessments involving employees and contractors.
  • Provide reports as required.
  • Provide positive, proactive leadership by example across both employee and contractor work groups.
  • Recommend safety improvement and accident prevention methods applicable to employees and contractors
  • Work with operations management to integrate the company’s safety culture into daily work activities for both employees and contractors.
  • Develop and/or contribute to health and safety communications (e.g., LFI Alerts, Good Catches, Safety Shares) applicable to employees and contractors.
  • Develop, revise and maintain safety and health policies, procedures, rules, and standards inclusive of contractor requirements.
  • Ensures timely reporting of workplace injury and illness data to applicable external agencies (OSHA and BLS)
  • Maintains required OSHA documentation for workplace recordable injuries/illnesses enterprise-wide, including applicable contractor records (OSHA 300 Logs, 300A Summaries, and 301 equivalents).
  • Provides support during emergencies, including mutual assistance contractor onboarding, and field safety support.
  • Represents Cleco Corporate Safety at external organizations’ professional functions and events (EEI, SEE, SWESE), including contractor safety engagement where applicable.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
