About The Position

Warehouse Safety Assistant The Rescue Mission is currently seeking a fulltime Safety Assistant to work out of our Warehouse Distribution center in Liverpool, NY. The Safety Assistant is responsible for the review, approval and enforcement of all safety procedures, training and metrics reporting. All duties and responsibilities, listed herein, are under the direction of the Director of Safety and Facilities. He or she will develop and implement best practice procedures, develop and report key performance indicators and enforce all safety regulations. He or she will collaborate with internal departments, contractors, vendors and business partners with the common goal of reducing workplace injuries and assist with the design of training programs and facilitate safety training for all Rescue Mission staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year in an environmental Health & Safety (EHS) related field OR A Bachelor’s degree in EHS-relevant background preferred.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License in compliance with company policy.
  • Travel as necessary to perform job duties, such as safety inspections, audits or gap analysis.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior facility workers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in an environment that services a diverse population
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Manages time efficiently.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior retail and/or warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preforms Safety activities such as leading the local Safety Committee, developing, and conducting Safety training, and participating as a liaison with the facilities team.
  • Assist Director of Safety & Facilities with management of alarm systems, badge access and monitoring, building inspections, and environmental inspections.
  • Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair. Reports any damage or repairs as needed.
  • Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly safety and walkthroughs to identify and action out any identified safety and related issues.
  • Must meet emergency needs by serving within staff rotation as an emergency on-call facilities staff person outside of business hours.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the OSHA standards.
  • Maintain vehicle files and schedules regular maintenance, DMV records, etc.
  • Schedule and manage all required emergency response drills and coordinate with local authorities.
  • Maintain inspection records for DOH, HHAP, OTDA and Onondaga County for both the Shelter and Crossroads to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining historical files on facility and equipment including: blueprints, CAD drawings, owner’s manuals and repair manuals and drawings.
  • Assists with the development of EHS corrective and preventive action plans
  • Promotes a safety-first attitude by setting a positive example and ensuring all employees are following safety policies and procedures.
  • Regular and predictable in-person attendance is an essential requirement of the job.
