About The Position

Our People Operations team at Eagle River Water and Sanitation District is on the lookout for an intern who’s all about creating a safer, healthier, and more engaged workplace. This role offers hands-on experience in safety, risk, employee well-being, and operational improvement while contributing to meaningful projects across the organization. During the course of this internship, you will assist with projects such as security audits, managing PPE and SDS programs, conducting field inspections, reviewing job hazards, analyzing near-miss incidents, and assisting with safety committees, signage, sun safety, and modified duty programs. This is a hands-on opportunity to build skills in safety, wellness, and process improvement while collaborating across teams. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; pursuing or recently completed degree preferred in Human Resources, Occupational Health, Organizational Development, Public Health, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Comfortable being able to setup and be on ladder of up to 15 ft.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under District standards.
  • Curious, adaptable, and ready to take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

  • Basic skills in dashboard / reporting is a bonus

Responsibilities

  • Explore Field Safety: Conduct field site and facility inspections to ensure proper signage, PPE use, and compliance—learning how safety standards are applied in real-world operations.
  • Hands-On Audits & Inventories: Maintain security cameras, audit signage, and manage PPE and key inventories—gaining practical experience in risk management, compliance, and operational organization.
  • Support Safety Projects: Collaborate with the Safety Committee, contribute to dashboards, documentation, and process improvements—learning how safety programs are designed, tracked, and evaluated.
  • Learn EHS Programs: Audit Safety Data Sheet (SDS) programs, review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and observe crew tasks—building knowledge of environmental health and safety protocols.
  • Analyze & Improve: Examine near-miss incidents to identify patterns—developing analytical and problem-solving skills to reduce workplace risks.
  • Contribute to Modified Duty Programs: Help create a task bank for supervisors—learning how organizations support employee return-to-work programs and maintain operational continuity.
