About The Position

Under the direction of the Pastor, is responsible for assisting the pastor in ensuring compliance with the Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment (SEP) program. This includes ensuring that all employees and high-risk volunteers have undergone a successful criminal history check. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)

Requirements

  • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; be in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the general public
  • Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must at all times; ability to travel locally as required.
  • Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing, spreadsheets, and power point.
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance
  • Be able to work with volunteers.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check.
  • Minimum Associate degree from an accredited institution in business or public administration or equivalent experience

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelors’ degree in business or public administration or equivalent experience
  • Prior successful management or law enforcement experience
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Performs as a lay minister at the parish level in support of the parish and the diocese’s spiritual and pastoral mission; performs as both a spiritual and administrative leader in the parish.
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
  • Prepare the annual SEP compliance plan to coincide with accepted diocesan SEP standards; ensure the pastor’s review and approval.
  • Review any updates or changes with the pastor and the Diocese of Tucson Office of Child, Adolescent, and Adult Protection (OCAAP)
  • Manage fingerprinting of all volunteers ensuring the Diocese receives the cards promptly.
  • Ensure all requests for criminal history check clearances are submitted to the Diocese of Tucson department of Human Resources (DOTHR) on a timely basis.
  • Establish and maintain an updated roster of all employees and volunteers as recommended by the OCAAP.
  • Manage Catholic Management Group (CMG) for the parish.
  • Quarterly reconciliation of ministry rosters versus CMG database and excel spreadsheet.
  • Track and ensure completion of volunteer renewals before their expiration date.
  • Ensure all expiring SEP clearances are submitted for renewal within 90 days of expiration.
  • Orient and educate all new employees and volunteers on Safe Environment requirements including the Arizona mandatory reporting Law.
  • New volunteer hiring and vetting.
  • Call references for new volunteers if ministry leader is unable.
  • Ensure the parish or location’s Safe Environment Program is audit-ready at all times.
  • Ensure the security and privacy of all volunteer and staff compliance paper files.
  • Attend Compliance Officer Diocesan training as required.
  • Update Ministry and Group leader’s roster as needed.
  • Review and update Ministry Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Coordinate Emergency Response Training.
  • Create a vetting process for youth volunteers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
