About The Position

We are looking for an Environment Officer to join our Environment Services team. The Environment Officer will implement field activities associated with the Council’s Biosecurity Strategy including the Regional Pest Management Plan for Taranaki. This position works within the Council’s biosecurity programme with some involvement in our site-led biodiversity programme. Biosecurity programme - Our Biosecurity Strategy and Regional Pest Management Plan identify our responsibilities to the region. The five key priorities for us are pathways and exclusion, eradication, sustained control, working with others and regional leadership. Council’s biosecurity programmes protect our people, economy and natural resources from pests through both regulatory and advocacy programmes. Biodiversity programme - Our Biodiversity Strategy sets out Council's programmes that protect biodiversity in Taranaki. Our officers work with willing landowners and community groups to identify and protect Key Native Ecosystem sites on private land. Requirements

  • Studied and/or worked in the field of biosecurity, even better if you have knowledge or experience in animal & pest plant management.
  • Excellent communication skills with emotional and cultural intelligence
  • Energy and enthusiasm to collaborate effectively as part of a team
  • Delivered projects as part of a team and can share your learnings with others
  • Confidence to collaborate and nurture great relationships with key stakeholders like iwi, hapū, media and community groups
  • Exposure to the facilitation and negotiation of contracts
  • Enthusiasm for embracing change & technology developments

Responsibilities

  • Implement field activities associated with the Council’s Biosecurity Strategy including the Regional Pest Management Plan for Taranaki.
  • Work within the Council’s biosecurity programme with some involvement in our site-led biodiversity programme.
  • Protect our people, economy and natural resources from pests through both regulatory and advocacy programmes.
  • Work with willing landowners and community groups to identify and protect Key Native Ecosystem sites on private land.
