About The Position

The Food Runner is responsible for stocking the kitchen and assisting chef and servers with expediting food from the kitchen to the guests. Ensures that food prep instructions and special requests are followed. Serves all meals to the guests in a professional manner. Completes tableside food preparation as needed to ensure efficient and timely service. Clearly announces and identifies all food as placing on table. May be required to function as a busser and/or buffet runner as requested by manager or supervisor.

Requirements

  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language (level to be customized per position).
  • The ability to follow payroll and key sign out procedures.
  • The ability to offer any assistance possible to guests.
  • The ability to respond properly to any hotel emergency or safety situation.
  • The ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff.
  • Comply with TIHTC work rules and standards per the associate handbook and as directed by management.
  • Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and management
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy.
  • Have working knowledge of the predominant language(s) of our guests.
  • Be able to lift, reach, bend and stoop.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
  • Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food frequently weighing 25 – 30 pounds.
  • High school diploma, minimum 1 year full service restaurant, basic food knowledge, proper serving techniques, good communication skills, guest service skills.
  • Must possess multi-tasking skills as well as strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Previous restaurant experience required – preferably within a 4/5 diamond hotel.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to work on time, in proper uniform (according to standards) and complies with company policy regarding absenteeism and tardiness
  • Attends all colleague meetings and reads the bulletin board daily for important notices and information, checks schedule daily
  • Obtain service area assignment at the beginning of each shift.
  • Interact with guests in a friendly and sincere manner.
  • Ability to explain Menu items and preparation/presentation to guests in detail.
  • Take additional Food and Beverage orders, making sure to accommodate guests special requests, communicates information to server or bus help.
  • Serve food to guests in a timely manner.
  • Assist busser in clearing of dishes and glasses if needed.
  • Organize and Stock kitchen area.
  • Clean and restock respective areas at conclusion of shift.
  • Knows proper Dining Room set-up, table numbers and position numbers of guests. Makes sure silverware and serving utensils are spotless.
  • Organize and stock food pick-up area, wash all trays daily.
  • Communicates any information or guest complaint to management and chef.
  • General knowledge of Hotel amenities.
  • Treats guests and coworkers with courtesy and respect.
  • Thank guests as they are leaving
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
  • Adheres to and observes all local and state health department laws and regulations regarding safe handling and serving of food.
  • Duties may include functioning as a busser and/or buffet runner as required or requested by manager or supervisor.
