The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Manager is an advocate for the nursing professional development team and manages the activities and personnel in the NPD department to provide the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through active participation in education, role development, collaborative partnerships, research/ evidence-based practice/ quality/performance improvement, onboarding/orientation, and competency management. The NPD Manager functions as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for NPD specialty and partner for practice transitions as they guide the department towards desired outcomes. The NPD Manager is responsible for, as a result, quality and safety are enhanced, and patient outcomes are improved. The principal duties and job responsibilities are based on the Standards of the Association of Nursing Professional Development including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, coordination, health promotion and evaluation. Additional standards integrated into the managers assessment and interventions include ethics, advocacy, respectful and equitable practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, scholarly inquiry, quality and practice, professional practice evaluation, resource stewardship, and environmental health.
