Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago Job Description Manager Nursing Professional Development Practitioner Full time, exempt (salaried) The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner Manager is a registered nurse who influences professional role competence and professional development of learners in a variety of settings. The NPD Practitioner Manager supports lifelong learners in an inter-professional environment that facilitates continuous development and learning for the healthcare team and advances the profession through publications, presentations, and other scholarly work. The NPD Practitioner Manager collaborates with the Director/Senior Director within designated areas of responsibility to manage operations for the Department of Clinical & Organizational Development. Collaborates with leadership team to create a work environment that engages staff in the attainment of department and organizational vision and goals.

Requirements

  • BSN required, MSN preferred
  • Master's degree in adult education preferred
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois required
  • ANCC recognized certification in specialty in area of clinical practice and NPD Specialty Certification .
  • 5+ years clinical experience required
  • 5+ years nursing professional development experience required
  • BLS certification required

Responsibilities

  • Develops educational curricula to address ongoing staff learning needs and competency development.
  • Designs and coordinates education to support implementation of clinical education initiatives.
  • Coordinates Mandatory Education curricula for nursing roles.
  • Actively works to transform educational processes at the department level, utilizing project management and improvement processes.
  • Demonstrates value of professional development to the organization through return on investment, enhances quality of care, and improves patient outcomes considering factors related to quality, safety, effectiveness and cost.
  • Provides consultation to leadership regarding systems that support learning opportunities to advance clinical competencies, professional development and decision making skills of staff.
  • Coordinates the documentation of competencies required by Accreditation agencies.
  • Manages payroll/time reporting process ensuring proper pay for staff, compliance with policies, and approval of overtime and incentive programs.
  • Serves as an operational resource and role model to staff.
  • Creates a work environment that attracts, retains and engages the highest quality of staff.
  • Proactively addresses any issues affecting work environment.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of high quality staff.
  • Coordinates orientation of NPD Practitioners.
  • Develops staff through coaching and mentoring.
  • Ensures high standards of performance by proactively addressing performance issues, including coaching and disciplinary conversations and from feedback provided through the performance appraisal process.
  • Assist Director in monitoring productivity, budgeting and variance reporting.
  • Collaborates with Director to prepare budget, monitor monthly variances, and takes corrective action and/or make recommendations for budget adjustments based on analyzed data and change in practice or trends.
  • Serves as a leader and guide to manage complex projects within department and organization.
  • Facilitates timely communication between departments, the Lurie Children's leadership structure and with staff. Remains aware of changes occurring within the organization and serves as a communication liaison between staff and Lurie Children's senior leadership.
  • Pursues professional development and networking opportunities to enhance personal professional knowledge and development.
  • Models ongoing learning to advance skills as a leader and NPD Practitioner.
  • The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.
  • Other job functions as assigned.
