By joining the Open Heart Surgery Team as an RN First Assistant, you assist in the provision of surgical nursing care and treatment to patients undergoing cardiac procedures. You will communicate with surgeons, other nurses, and caregivers in the Operating Room on patient status and next steps in the procedure. You will also assist with closing wounds, placing catheters, surgical prep, and scrubbing in. By taking on this opportunity, you will gain plenty of hands-on experience while working at one of the best places to receive healthcare. A caregiver in this position works varying days and hours between 6:30AM - 7:00PM, with on-call requirements.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Registered Nurse First Assist course
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
  • Two years of current clinical experience in an operating room or perioperative area

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the provision of surgical nursing care and treatment of patients.
  • Assess pre-operatively and post-operatively from phase II anesthesia recovery through discharge.
  • Handle tissue, provide exposure, use instruments, suture, provide hemostasis, and close tissue and skin in an operative setting.
  • Perform initial and ongoing nursing assessments.
  • Administer medications and treatments.
  • Establish coordinated plans of care.
  • Monitor the progress of hospitalized patients and assist in discharge planning.
  • Initiate CPR and other emergency measures.
