About The Position

The Returns and Damages Coordinator collaborates with the DC Merchandise Disposition Supervisor, DC Operations, Buyers, and Vendors to research, problem solve, and process merchandise by physical handling and inspection and performing systematic DC inventory adjustments required for all RTV (Return to Vendor), recall, inbound and in-house damages, and non-Burlington product. In addition, this role assists with various special projects as needed in support of the business needs and objectives such as donation, sample sales, quality inspections, etc.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and analytical/deductive reasoning skills to determine and initiate required action steps

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to compose professional vendor and buyer facing email communications.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to be mobile for long periods of time.

  • Ability to climb, balance, bend, lift, kneel, squat, and reach repeatedly.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move cartons up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in non-temperature-controlled Distribution Center (hot in the summer, cold in the winter).
  • Ability to transpose numbers and information with accuracy.
  • Proven record of excellent attendance and punctuality to work is a must.

  • General distribution center/warehouse knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with RF Scanners is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Processes inbound and in-house damages by following Burlington inspection criteria and SOP requirements to inspect and sort merchandise, determine final disposition of merchandise, prepare merchandise for return to stock, sample sale or donation, calculate, enter and communicate cost of goods chargebacks and freight claims, and perform timely inventory adjustments.
  • Initiate and drive the RTV process by validating merchandise assigned to the RTV department, completing appropriate RTV documentation and data entry, and providing excellent internal and external customer service through communication and follow up with Buyers, Vendors, and Vendor Operations to promote the timely disposition of merchandise, acquisition of Return Authorization, contact information and pick up confirmation, preparation of physical merchandise for return to the vendor, calculation and entry of cost of goods chargebacks/debits and communication of financial adjustments to Inventory Control and DC Finance.
  • Tasks include physical handling and movement of cartons and product, opening and closing cartons, stacking cartons on pallets, flagging cartons, cleaning and repackaging product, re-ticketing, re-packaging, case labeling, disposal of trash and damaged merchandise, using a RF Scanner and computer to make inventory adjustments including split/moves, etc.
  • Utilize multiple computer information management systems to conduct research, manage inventory and chargebacks, problem solve, and initiate and determine action steps.
  • Engage the appropriate level of management to assist with the escalation of items needing immediate attention and keeps the supervisor informed of all pertinent information.
  • Provide training as needed to associates in support roles within operations regarding processes and SOP requirements including temp labor performing this function.
  • Assists with various special projects as needed in support of the business needs and objectives including, but not limited to receiving, inspecting, sorting, inventorying, and packing product for donation, sample sales, etc.
  • Ensure safe and clean work area through adherence to strict safety standards and following established policies and procedures.
  • Contribute as a cross-functional team member utilizing proficiency in all DC departments across multiple shifts and buildings to problem solve and complete a variety of tasks in support of the business needs and objectives within the Merchandise Disposition Department as needed. Other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Provide month end physical inventory of product in the RTV locations to support the monthly financial accrual, shipping damage adjustments and other reporting as required.
