About The Position

As a Retirement Specialist III you will interpret and apply applicable laws, rules, and regulations necessary to refund employee contributions and pay accumulated Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) benefits. Use retirement data to determine refund eligibility dates and prepare DROP termination information. Review and process retirement forms or other documents for refunds, DROP payouts, and insurance deduction authorizations. Serve as a lead worker for complex accounts.    Provide customer service by email, phone, and personal interviews with members, employers, and other stakeholders. Compose complete, accurate, and grammatically correct correspondence, in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.    Complete assigned projects in a timely manner.  May serve on committees and in workgroups to improve or maintain bureau or division wide administration of the retirement system.   Update section procedures for the approval of the section administrator.  May develop and maintain templates and standard comments used in the section’s correspondence.   Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical principles.
  • Ability to understand and apply retirement rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze retirement data.
  • Ability to write clear and concise correspondence.
  • Ability to verbally communicate relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use a personal computer.
  • Ability to navigate the computer network.
  • Knowledge of word processing.

  • Two years of professional experience in the area of insurance, retirement or social security, administration, call center, customer service, fiscal work, statistics, or personnel.
  • A postsecondary degree may be used as an alternative for years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Professional experience in the areas described or any combination of the above, can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
