About The Position
The Retail Representative (Food & Beverage) plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable guest experience aboard the M/V Ptarmigan. This position is responsible for serving packaged snacks, beverages, and alcoholic drinks; processing retail and ticket transactions; and maintaining a clean, organized, and guest-ready counter area throughout daily sailings. The ideal candidate enjoys engaging with guests in a fast-paced maritime environment, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and takes pride in supporting smooth vessel operations through teamwork and exceptional service. This position requires a current Alaska Alcohol Server Training Card and Food Handler’s Permit prior to or upon employment.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Current Alaska Alcohol Server Training Card and Food Handler’s Permit required prior to or upon employment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to guest service excellence.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and potential overtime during the tourism season.

Responsibilities
- Serve packaged snacks, beverages, and alcoholic drinks in compliance with all food safety and alcohol service regulations.
- Accurately process retail, beverage, and ticket transactions using the point-of-sale system.
- Greet guests warmly and provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service throughout the cruise.
- Stock, rotate, and display retail merchandise and beverages to ensure proper presentation and inventory management.
- Work in coordination with deckhands to maintain a clean, organized vessel between sailings, including the retail counter, seating areas, and trash removal.
- Follow established point-of-sale, cash handling, and inventory control procedures.
- Support daily opening and closing duties, including restocking and preparing for upcoming sailings.
- Collaborate closely with the Captain, vessel crew, and fellow team members to ensure smooth operations and high guest satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
