About The Position

Serves as an expert respiratory therapist who assures the optimum utility and appropriateness of respiratory services through the application of current knowledge for care planning and delivery. Thoroughly assesses the patient’s requirements, functions as part of the care delivery team, collaborates with physicians by providing evidence-based input to develop and implement care plans and intervenes when necessary to affect the best possible outcome for the patient and family. Oversees the performance of other staff and students as it relates to procedural standards, educational opportunities, and implementation of services.

Requirements

  • Associates degree with Respiratory Therapy major.
  • Completed level I, II, and III therapist competency validation requirements
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure by the State of Michigan.
  • Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • BCLS certification.
  • Two years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist plus a minimum of 2 years' experience .
  • Proficient to Expert level in all of the major Adult, and Neonatal ICU applications of Respiratory Care demonstrated by successful completion of the Department’s Competency Assessment Examinations

Responsibilities

  • Functions as an expert respiratory therapist who assures the optimum utility and appropriateness of respiratory services through the application of current knowledge for care planning and delivery.
  • Performs therapist driven protocols, patient assessments, administration of medications, and evaluates patient response to therapies.
  • Documents s performance and results of therapies.
  • Performs all actions (therapeutic and diagnostic) according to policy and procedure
  • Participates in the education of patient, family, and health care providers
  • Accurately maintains the Order Entry and Charging system related to services rendered
  • Assists with data collection and projects for Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and the Respiratory Care Department process improvement plan.
  • Supervises and a ssists in the training of new employees and students
  • Cleans, assembles, maintains and troubleshoots all Respiratory Care Department equipment while utilizing supplies and resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – Participates as a member of the CPR team.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Performs in charge duties as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned to assure efficient operation of the Respiratory Care Department
