About The Position

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry is recruiting for a Resource Management Coordinator for the Maine Natural Areas Program, a Division of the Bureau of Resource Information and Land Use Planning, in Augusta, Maine. The MNAP conducts statewide inventory and monitoring to document the location, condition and status of Maine’s at-risk species and habitats, ecosystems, and landscape scale areas of statewide ecological significance. The program maintains a comprehensive data management system used primarily for planning and protection efforts. MNAP is part of the national network of Natural Heritage programs (NatureServe) and serves a wide variety of users including federal, state and local agencies, consultants, environmental groups, non-government organizations, private landowners, and the public.

Requirements

Requires background combination of education and/or experience demonstrating technical expertise in natural resource program management or position specific expertise.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of northeastern flora and fauna, natural communities, and ecosystems.
Expertise with GIS, GPS, data management, remote sensing, Biotics, and data analysis.
Familiarity with Natural Heritage program methodologies, vegetation sampling, forest inventory, and field survey design.
Experience with project management, report writing, and budgets.
Graduate degree in Conservation or Wildlife Biology, Botany, Data Science or related field.
The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of principles, ecology, fish, wildlife, and plant biology, and natural community conservation, management, and ecology.
Knowledge of field survey methods for at-risk species and habitats, including Natural Heritage methodology, is preferred.
Knowledge of design and operation of GIS systems, spatial analysis quality requirements, database management systems, resource analysis and sources of mapped and tabular data, computer operating systems and programming languages, and electronic data processing is strongly preferred.
The successful candidate will demonstrate effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills, and employ them when interacting with diverse audiences.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and work as part of an interdisciplinary team to support division/department goals.
Candidates must be able to think creatively, demonstrate initiative, independence, and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

The Information Manager has overall responsibility for directing the flow of biological data into and out of multiple manual and computerized data management systems, including but not limited to, Biotics and the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Endangered/Threatened/Special Concern species database.
The Information Manager establishes data management policies, procedures and priorities, coordinates and oversees processing and storage of rare species and habitat information and facilitates analysis of biodiversity data.
The Information Manager improves data workflow, facilitates staff access to biodiversity data, and maintains the currency and quality of databases and GIS services.
The Information Manager is responsible for acquiring, processing, making available, and analyzing data on species, natural communities, and ecosystems in Maine.
The Information Manager may oversee interns and is responsible for training them in office-related tasks.
