About The Position

Weston & Sampson is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer who’s energized by climate resiliency and motivated by complex, real-world challenges, especially in coastal, urban environments. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ambiguous problems and turning them into clear, buildable solutions that work for communities, agencies, and stakeholders. You’ll lead and support projects that are technically demanding and high-impact — often involving flood mitigation, resilient waterfront infrastructure, and adaptation planning/design, while navigating permitting and multidisciplinary coordination. This position can be based in one of our SC or VA offices. What you’ll do:

Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering (MS a plus).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe).
  • Strong experience delivering civil infrastructure projects, including permitting and agency coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to be solution-oriented, creative, and practical—balancing innovation with real constraints.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in coastal and/or urban waterfront environments (flood mitigation, resilient design, shoreline/waterfront infrastructure, stormwater, drainage, or transportation interfaces).
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts/New England or similar regulatory environments and typical approvals (local commissions, state agencies, environmental review processes, etc.).
  • Experience supporting or leading projects that include community engagement or stakeholder coordination.
  • Comfort working in multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical contributor and project leader on climate resiliency and coastal infrastructure efforts (planning through design and permitting).
  • Develop and evaluate creative, practical alternatives for challenging site constraints (utilities, access, constructability, community needs, and phased implementation).
  • Lead and/or support local and state permitting efforts: permitting strategy, agency coordination, and preparation of technical documentation and applications.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines and external partners (survey, geotech, coastal, transportation, environmental, landscape/architecture, etc.).
  • Produce and oversee engineering deliverables such as calculations, technical memos, plans, design reports, and cost estimates.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Communicate clearly with clients, agencies, and stakeholders—translating technical complexity into actionable decisions.

Benefits

  • Weston & Sampson offers a flexible work environment, competitive compensation, industry-leading benefits, and exciting career growth opportunities—all in a supportive and dynamic corporate culture that embraces diverse perspectives and recognizes people for their contributions.
