The Opportunity The Technology Resiliency Engineer - Mid Level, helps to ensure the organization’s critical technology services and infrastructure are resilient, recoverable, and compliant with regulatory expectations, including those outlined in the FFIEC Business Continuity Management guidance. This role requires an understanding of cloud architectures, and the ability to evaluate and assess resilience patterns and controls across cloud workloads. This engineer partners with platform teams, developers, and resilience architects to proactively mitigate risks, improve failover readiness, and ensure compliance with ERG standards. This role leads Association-wide efforts to embed resiliency into technology operations and business resiliency strategies, with a focus on proactive risk, mitigation and continuous improvement. Responsible for creating, modifying, maintaining and supporting infrastructure and individual and integrated system components and solutions that enable business functions and IT Services. Balance availability, security, efficiency and functional requirements to help provide an optimized production service. Identify and manage existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and ensure these risks are effectively identified and escalated to be measured, monitored and controlled. This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: Charlotte, NC, San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, or Phoenix, AZ. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
  • 4 years of infrastructure experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s) or applicable IT experience such as IT Management, Software Development, Data Engineering, and Agile Product/Release Management.
  • 2 years of experience in creating, modifying, and maintaining infrastructure and individual system components.
  • Proficient level of business acumen in the areas of business operations, risk management, industry practices and emerging trends.
  • Knowledge and understanding of designing scalable IT system infrastructures, implementing system changes, or automating service delivery and maintenance tasks.
  • Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS or other Public Cloud Certification - AWS Certified Solutions Architect
  • Programming experience (python/Java/DB), experience with terraform, Datadog, ELK, AWS Config, or other public cloud compute, DB, networking , and storage services.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT disaster recovery and/or technology risk management.
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms, infrastructure resilience, and cybersecurity integration.
  • Deep understanding of FFIEC BCM guidance, NIST resilience principles, and regulatory expectations.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage senior executives and regulators.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and project management skills.
  • Experience in implementing chaos testing tools and fault injection validation
  • Certifications such as CBCP, CRISC, CISSP, or ITIL are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Under limited supervision, designs scalable IT system infrastructure, implements system changes with consistency and autonomy, and automates service delivery and maintenance tasks; builds monitoring and tooling for systems.
  • Independently, resolves complex technology production issues by troubleshooting IT systems.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements and makes recommendations to management.
  • Analyzes complex outages and identifies opportunities for system improvements.
  • Understands and consistently exercises engineering best practices, concepts, and patterns
  • Understands the customer and identifies solutions and ideas for the customer with some assistance
  • Evaluates potential Technology solutions with some oversight
  • Mentors’ junior engineers and may being mentoring peer engineer
  • Develop software defined infrastructure in code in CI/CD Pipelines
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
