This position is responsible for: Accepts, orients, and counsels residents staying in the domestic violence shelter; assists residents on an assigned shift with basic needs, and ensures safety, security, and adherence to house guidelines; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order. Key Responsibilities: Responsible for providing emotional support to victims and educate them on the warning signs of domestic violence, as well as the options available to them to get out of their current situation. Serves as a listening ear to callers who may just want to speak with someone about their trauma. Assists domestic violence hotline callers; provides telephone counseling, safety planning, information and referral services; collects information to determine the needs of victims and fill out crisis sheets for shelter and/or TPOs; provides emotional support to clients; contacts director to determine victim's eligibility when seeking shelter; advocates for clients who are needing referrals to other providers. Orients new clients to the program, helps survivors with crisis counseling and safety planning, and prepares case records to facilitate case management, records daily services. Ensures house guidelines are understood and followed; records incidents and notifies supervisor of any special circumstances or unusual problems; ensures security of facility and clients. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements; ability to read, write and communicate the English language; ability to perform combinations of siting; standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 bs) 5-10% of work time.
