About The Position

Under the supervision of the Residential Services Coordinator, assists in the personal care and treatment of individuals with intellectual disabilities in a residential setting. Candidate is responsible for implementation of skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs developed to maximize an individual's potential for increased independence. Typical duties include: training and assisting residents in daily living skills such as personal care; interpersonal communication skills; household cleaning; meal preparation and laundry; implementation of Behavior Treatment Plans which may include the use of therapeutic physical and verbal intervention; maintaining required documentation; and assisting residents in participation in community activities. Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training sessions

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Must receive and maintain certification in Department of Community Health Group Home Skill Training.
  • Must be able to understand written instructions.
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate both in writing and verbally is required.
  • Must be able to read and follow medication charts.
  • Candidate will provide crisis intervention as needed (Therapeutic Options A & Therapeutic Option B on an Emergency basis) and must be physically able to do lifting and transferring of physically impaired consumers according to approved agency policies/procedures.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use is required.
  • Employment offers for this position will be contingent upon the results of a criminal background check (including fingerprinting), a physical exam, and verification of an acceptable Michigan driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam annually.
