Resident Pastoral Education participates in all activities and group work of the Clinical Pastoral Education Program, complete all required readings and written work, provide spiritual care to patients/families/staff on assigned units or by referrals through Spiritual Care, provide overnight and weekend on-call coverage in rotation with others. The chaplain must apply what they are learning in the CPE Education Program in order to make judgements concerning the spiritual/emotional needs of persons and decisions about how to assist those persons as a chaplain either directly or indirectly. Residents must communicate in the context of the other person’s frame of reference and language skills. The Chaplain Resident must work as a professional, interact as part of the interdisciplinary care team, and chart as directed and appropriate in the patient’s medical record. Must be able to relate comfortably and supportively with CPE peers, patients and their families, physicians, and department and hospital employees at all levels of management, and from diverse backgrounds.
