Job Summary Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Residential Student Development, the Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) is a live-in professional who oversees all the daily operations and leadership of their assigned residential community. The incumbent's responsibility includes but is not limited to the following areas: lead Graduate Residential Life Coordinators (GRLCs), Resident Assistants (RAs), and Student Assistants (SAs), case coordination centering around student behavior, residential curriculum and community development, and administrative components. The RLC participates in departmental initiatives and leads or serves on committees as needed. The incumbent assists in the overall development and implementation of the Residential Life and Student Housing programs including the coordination of the residential life staff, programs, services and facilities of the program. The incumbent is required to live on campus in university-provided accommodations so that emergency response requirements can be met effectively and promptly. Incumbent is encouraged to eat meals with students in university dining facilities. Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
  • Valid CA Driver License required.
  • Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in student housing preferred.
  • Two years of experience with Residence Hall Management preferred.
  • One year experience supervising Resident Assistants (RAs) or other University student workers preferred.
  • One year experience in counseling, advising, and programming for college-level students preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Student Development, Higher Education, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Staff, Development & Leadership - Lead Graduate Residential Life Coordinators (GRLCs), Resident Assistants (RAs), and Student Assistants (SAs); provide on-going feedback, and guidance in handling difficult situations and resident concerns. Review, sign, and submit all necessary HR and Payroll paperwork accurately and timely including time sheets, vouchers, evaluations, etc.
  • Student Behavior, Crisis Management, and Case Coordination - Assess and address student concerns and crisis and coordinate cases to assist resident with university resources. Oversee the implementation of university policy, Residential Life Community Living Guide, and Student Housing License Agreement, as well as provide and/or coordinate support for students as directed by University CARES Team.
  • Residential Curriculum, Community Development, and Student Success - Collaborate with Residence Life Leadership team to develop and implement the Residential Curriculum and create a living/learning environment that helps students connect with peers and supports the academic mission. Create an environment that enables students to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, interpersonally, and ethically.
  • Administration & Committee Work - Oversee daily building administration, procedures, and operation, including opening and closing the buildings for the new academic year and break periods. Attend meetings and participate in training sessions each summer and semester. Participate in centralized planning efforts for Residential Life.
