About The Position

The Resident Assistant (RA) facilitates the social, academic, and personal adjustment of students to the residence hall and College. The RA develops a sense of community among residents as members of a floor, residents of a building, and active participants in the student housing system. The RA serves as a positive role model for residents and peer staff members. The RA enforces the policies and procedures of Student Housing and the College. The RA acts as a liaison between residents and College administration.

  • Creates a welcoming and trusting environment that engages students in a residential living environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster agency among residents and encourage self-efficacy, self-determination, self-advocacy, and accountability.
  • Demonstrates a capacity to manage academic, personal, and work responsibilities to serve as a role model for residents.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with a variety of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to practices that promote healthy community dynamics.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • RAs must be enrolled in twelve (12) or more credit hours at KCKCC for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.
  • RAs must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA) for returning students and a 2.5 or equivalent GPA for students new to college (high school GPA).
  • RAs must have a student housing conduct record which demonstrates their ability to be a good role model for residential students.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Resident Assistant or similar position.
  • Experience living in a community living environment.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in Centennial Hall staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with the Coordinator and/or Director.
  • Assist in the supervision of the residence hall by staffing scheduled on-call hours and promptly respond to all requests and emergencies.
  • Attend and participate in staff training sessions before the beginning of each semester and throughout the year.
  • Listen to residents’ personal and academic concerns and guide them to campus and community resources.
  • Assist residents in their adjustment to roommate and community living.
  • Under the direction of the Student Housing Director and Coordinator, design and implement events and activities for floor members that enhance residents’ social, educational, community, and personal development.
  • Conduct periodic floor meetings for the purpose of planning events and/or activities, disseminating information, and explaining residence hall policies and procedures.
  • Under the direction of the Student Housing Director and Coordinator, appropriately mediate minor resident, and roommate conflicts.
  • Report all witnessed violations of Student Housing and College policies to the Student Housing Coordinator and Director and promptly respond to all emergencies.
  • Under the direction of the Coordinator, assist in activities related to the opening and closing of the residence halls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Student Housing Coordinator and/or Director.

  • Housing accommodation in the Student Housing, including all utilities and parking at an approximate value at $3,050 per semester
  • Resident Assistants are also paid a stipend of $200 per pay period for a total of $400 a month.
