About The Position

The Rajagopal Lab in the department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences is looking for a Research Technician II that assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials allowing for the advancement of scientific analysis and discovery in studies of retinal metabolism, diabetes, and blinding illnesses. Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
  • Certifications/Professional Licenses: No specific certification/professional license is required for this position.
  • Work Experience: No specific work experience is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • The ideal candidate will have up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Individuals with experience in one or more of the following techniques: western blotting, quantitative PCR, immunofluorescence imaging, cell culture, mouse colony management and husbandry.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs biochemical assays using mouse and human retinal tissue, maintains mouse colonies with specific genetic modifications, and keeps logs of inventories.
  • Performs data entry, organize, and maintains required data files on research.
  • Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  • Complies with established safety procedures, compliance requirements, and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
