About The Position

This position is to assist and support scientific investigation focused on novel therapeutics for blood borne malignancies, under the direction of Dr. Natarajan Muthusamy. The role involves independently conducting assigned experiments and performing a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques. The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center aligned with a nationally ranked academic medical center and a freestanding cancer hospital. It is dedicated to creating knowledge in laboratory, clinical, and population-based cancer research, applying discoveries to develop more effective approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and therapies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
  • 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED
  • 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree
  • 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support scientific investigation to study novel therapeutics for blood borne malignancies as directed Dr. Natarajan Muthusamy
  • Independently conduct assigned experiments
  • Perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis
  • Sort and process tissue and blood samples
  • Test and evaluate current procedures
  • Perform routine procedures on lab animals
  • Record, consolidate and assist with analysis of research results
  • Assist in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures
  • Summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts
  • Prepare research progress reports
  • Assist principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts
  • Conduct library research on requested topics through researching current literature
  • Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities
  • Assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment
  • Monitor research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiate procurement requests as needed
