About The Position

Parsons is seeking a Research Engineer II to support Naval Medical Research Unit – San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) and its collaborating institutions in the conduct of advanced biomedical engineering functions. NAMRU-SA’s mission is to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of DoD personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. The Research Engineer II will resolve novel systems and identify engineering problems requiring the development of new techniques or the innovative application of state-of-the-art technology. The role involves coordinating design phases, directing system integration and testing, and developing models of fluid flow in air and liquid systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years’ related experience, or a master’s degree plus demonstrable experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve novel systems and identify engineering problems.
  • Proficiency in coordinating design phases and directing system integration and testing.
  • Strong skills in setting up and operating laboratory equipment in accordance with research protocols.
  • Excellent analytical skills for compiling and analyzing data using scientific or statistical techniques.
  • Ability to develop models of fluid flow in air and liquid systems.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for publication and presentation materials.
  • Ability to maintain data and records securely, including the use of an assigned laboratory notebook.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve novel systems and identify engineering problems which require the development of new techniques or the innovative application of new state-of-the-art technology.
  • Provide support in professional biomedical engineering functions involving medical research practices to support the laboratory’s efforts.
  • Coordinate all design phases with contractor personnel (lab/project managers, other engineers, and technical support personnel).
  • Direct the integration, fabrication, and functional testing of systems after installation to ensure that performance meets specifications and protocol requirements.
  • Set up, operate, and calibrate laboratory equipment in accordance with research protocols.
  • Research and collect data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a clean and operational lab space.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies for research.
  • Compile and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques.
  • Assist with writing and editing material for publication and presentation.
  • Report on the status of research activities.
  • Route administrative paperwork related to scientific products.
  • Maintain data and records securely, including the use of an assigned laboratory notebook.
  • Develop models of fluid flow in air and liquid systems.
