Arthrex is actively searching for a Senior Research Engineer II, Biomechanical Research. Main Objective: Lead, conduct, and coordinate biomechanical research studies and product testing in a laboratory setting and report findings.

Requirements

General understanding of mechanical and biomechanical testing methods and principles
Able to complete data analysis, statistical comparisons, and write technical reports
General understanding of Good Document Practices
Able to use Microsoft Office software and some CAD software experience
Able to operate a variety of mechanical testing machines and collect testing data
Knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy
Familiar with orthopedic implants and surgical techniques
Capable of writing scientific articles for peer-reviewed publications
Able to use multiple software platforms for data analysis, statistics, and CAD
Proficient in statistical analyses
Proficient in the design of biomechanical testing methods and the operation of any needed testing equipment
Expert in musculoskeletal anatomy
Understanding of leadership skills and techniques
Expert in the field of orthopedic device testing
Comfortable with Microsoft Office software and CAD software
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Comfortable writing technical reports
Understanding of statistical analysis and able to use statistical software
Ability to perform peer-reviewed literature searches
Able to recognize abnormal testing results and identify the source
Proficient in mechanical testing equipment and methods
Able to identify anatomical landmarks during dissections
Accurate record keeping and applies Good Document Practices
Able to train new employees
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced corporate environment
Demonstrated critical thinking ability with regard to biomechanical testing methods and results
Expert knowledge of orthopedic medical devices
Understanding of orthopedic surgical techniques
Able to demonstrate and instruct others in dissections for the purpose of biomechanical sample preparations
Demonstrated leadership skills
Expert in technical and scientific writing and statistical methods
Minimum 8 years experience in a biomechanical laboratory setting required
Bachelors degree in Engineering required.
Advanced computer skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
MATLAB or prior coding experience.
Computer-aided design experience (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
Knowledge of biomechanical testing principles.
Anatomy and physiology knowledge.
Ability to follow written and verbal directions.

Nice To Haves

Publication experience preferred.
Robotic (e.g., KUKA) testing experience preferred

Responsibilities

Design and perform biomechanical research studies aligned with Arthrex’s strategic research initiatives.
Such research could include: Static and dynamic mechanical testing Cadaveric testing
Design and perform research to facilitate evaluation of new technologies and design concepts.
Participate in the preparation (e.g., literature review), writing, and submission process of scientific articles.
Collaborate with surgeons for ongoing studies and potential future studies or projects, identifying major ways to advance patient care and scientific evidence.
Perform mechanical testing studies by preparing test samples, collecting data, record keeping, and statistically analyzing data.
Prepare technical reports and disseminate information to facilitate product related business decision making.
Work with product management or engineering to identify, analyze, and support new opportunities for added value or future growth.
Maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness.
Operate a variety of materials testing machines (including a KUKA robot), gauges, and software to obtain requested testing results.
Maintain and update records of work performed to contribute to team and personal metrics.
Maintain a leading-edge understanding of research and applications in relation to assigned portfolio(s), including new exploratory studies and/or projects.
Minimal travel and some flexibility of work hours may be required, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Must comply with all laboratory safety instructions and wear PPE as appropriate for various activities.
