Requirements Job Overview The RA is responsible for supporting the work of Georgetown’s Center for Innovations in Community Safety (CICS). The primary responsibility of the RA is to provide administrative and support across CICS research initiatives. The RA will support the Director of Research and Evaluation in collaborating with faculty, staff, and community partners, and executing research activities to measure the impact of community safety-related programs and interventions, including programs being implemented by CICS. The RA will support mixed methods research, data collection and analyses, and help draft research protocols and presentations of data analyses. The RA will present research findings for diverse audiences, including donors, policy-makers, journalists, and academics among others, through reports, data visualizations and other publications. Work Interactions CICS is hiring a Research Assistant to help it fulfill its mission to transform police culture. Reporting to the Director of Research and Evaluation, the Research Assistant will: Research (40%) Provide support for CICS research and evaluation activities, including research design, data collection, and analysis Support the implementation of various mixed-methods ranging from surveys to focus groups Support CICS in developing and implementing community-engaged research methods (e.g., participatory action research) Assist with data entry, cleaning, and analysis using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Qualtrics, Stata) Identify opportunities to expand research that aligns with CICS mission and core values Project Management (40%) Spearhead project management of research for CICS programs, including ABLE, Policing for Tomorrow, and Jigsaw Schedule and attend meetings with internal staff and external stakeholders Track progress by, for example, taking meeting notes, establishing and following up on action items, and monitoring budgets Support CICS staff as needed across research activities Writing (20%) Conduct literature reviews, draft written documents including IRB proposals and revisions, research instruments, study findings, and grant proposals Develop charts, infographics, and other visual representations of study findings Prepare progress reports for the CICS and stakeholders and assist with publishing other articles, reports, and presentations. Requirements

  • Applicants should have an undergraduate degree; have strong research, project management, writing, and editing skills; and must share a commitment to our mission to transform police culture to reduce harm to marginalized communities.
  • Have an undergraduate degree in public policy or law.
  • Have professional experience supporting a social science research project
  • Have experience conducting research using: Dedoose qualitative analysis software; and Statistical analysis packages such as Qualtrics SPSS, Stata, etc.
  • Creating visualizations of data
  • Demonstrate: Comfort reading, interpreting, and summarizing social science literature and research; Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; A sincere interest in criminal justice, policing, and/or community safety; and Basic knowledge of contemporary issues in American policing and community safety.
