About The Position

The Duke Center for Global Mental Health (CGMH) at the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) is seeking a Research Analyst to support its growing portfolio of research, training, and global partnerships. In this role, you will work closely with CGMH leadership, faculty, and international collaborators to coordinate a wide range of activities that advance mental health equity worldwide. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary work spanning research, education, policy, and practice within a globally engaged academic environment. In your day-to-day work, you will work with the lead CGMH administrator to coordinate operations —organizing events and conferences, supporting trainee engagement and development, and managing logistics for visiting scholars. You will also play a key role in maintaining the Center’s communications, including managing the website and social media presence, distributing updates to stakeholders, and helping showcase the impact of faculty and partner work. Your attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities will be essential in ensuring smooth execution across these activities. You will also contribute to the Center’s research mission by supporting project administration, assisting with manuscript and grant development, and facilitating collaboration across faculty and partners. In addition, you will help track Center metrics and manage databases of affiliates and projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience demonstrating strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Work requires two years of experience in research/data analysis or related position. Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Proficiency in key tools: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, and Google Drive.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills for both own work and others’.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, stay organized, and maintain a professional demeanor in a team-based academic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest and/or experience in global health.
  • Experience with social media management (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn) and website maintenance (e.g., WordPress).
  • Familiarity with survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics), graphic design (e.g., Canva), and data analysis software (e.g., RStudio).
  • Experience supporting academic research (e.g., manuscripts, grants, or research administration).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship-building, teamwork, and ability to delegate effectively.
  • Adaptability, initiative (self-starter), and comfort working in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate operations and events: Organize seminars, conferences, and internal meetings; support visits by global collaborators; manage logistics like travel, accommodations, and event planning.
  • Support trainees and personnel: Help grow the Center’s trainee group by coordinating activities, connecting trainees with faculty, and overseeing student research assistants and administrative hiring needs.
  • Manage communications and visibility: Maintain and improve the Center’s website, newsletter, and social media presence, share updates with stakeholders, and collaborate with the marketing team to highlight Center work and produce an annual report.
  • Assist with research and grants: Provide administrative support for research (e.g., approvals, data management), contribute to manuscripts, and support grant writing and collaborative projects.
  • Oversee financials and data systems: Manage expense reporting and monthly financial tracking while maintaining databases of affiliates, projects, and key Center metrics.
