About The Position

The Repair and Maintenance Shop Trainee will work directly with an experienced senior mechanic to assist with tasks while learning the trade. Common projects include water pumps, gearboxes, and electrical motors. The ideal candidate for the position is eager to learn, interested in career growth, and has a foundation of mechanical experience. Work is completed in a shop setting with occasional field experience in the aggregate industry.

Requirements

  • Must submit to a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Able to work at various locations local to Harrisburg, PA and surrounding areas
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Good communication skills and a strong work ethic
  • Strong desire to learn and develop
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Formal training and experience in mechanical repairs within an industrial setting or relatable by comparison.

Responsibilities

  • Receives instructions covering scheduled and emergency repair and installation projects.
  • Ability to interpret prints, plans and work instructions; develop sketches, diagrams, and prints as required.
  • Inspects mechanical equipment for defects and improper operations such as misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrications, production of defective material, etc.
  • Determines the best way to make repairs to minimize divergence from quality and production standards.
  • Understands the need for quick turnaround to prevent loss of production and adheres to that.
  • Advises when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize detrimental effects on quality, productivity, and machinery.
  • Make corrections and repairs necessary to follow OSHA & MSHA requirements.
  • Dismantles, cleans, repairs, installs, maintains, assembles, and lubricates mechanical equipment.
  • Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, shafts, etc. involving the application of press and sliding fits.
  • Performs lifting and rigging as necessary.
  • Performs all types of electric and gas welding, burning, and brazing as required on construction and maintenance of equipment.
  • Uses micrometers, calipers, gauges, measuring and balancing machines to perform close tolerance adjustment for all operation and steering equipment.
  • Test and operate repaired equipment as necessary.
  • Makes field repairs to get equipment back in service.
  • Complete work orders and keep record of activities with the ability to navigate a computer.
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and work area.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting. Expected to promote a positive work culture.
  • Attend meetings as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
