Position Summary: This position is in the West Fuels Value Chain – Renewable & Carbon Regulatory Assurance department. The role primarily involves evaluating and applying current and upcoming renewable regulatory programs, assessing their impacts, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements. The Life Cycle Analyst is responsible for conducting life cycle analyses (LCA) for renewable transportation fuels under current compliance programs, including EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard, California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and Oregon’s Clean Fuels Program, as well as any future programs in which the company may participate. This role involves collaborating with internal teams to gather and manage extensive data sets, accurately modeling the life cycles of various fuels, facilities, and projects. The Life Cycle Analyst must have a comprehensive understanding of company operations, renewable fuel regulatory programs, and the source data used in LCA models. Additionally, this position requires regular communication with regulatory agencies to provide insights into MPC operations and life cycle modeling, offering expertise and guidance to ensure the use of the most accurate information and methodologies in LCA modeling. The position is located in Findlay, OH. This position is part of a job family with multiple career levels.   • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or other related discipline required.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in Renewables or Oil & Gas industry preferably in operations or compliance required.
  • Self-driven with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Preferred experience in life cycle analysis, operations, interpreting regulations, and carbon intensity modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Expands knowledge of the renewable programs, understands rulemaking processes, and seeks insight from agency communications and rulemaking.
  • Utilizes consultants to understand nuanced areas of the regulations.
  • Collects, shares, and provides recommendations based on industry intelligence to benefit decision making for Commercial department stakeholders, and to provide recommendations to improve process and procedures.
  • Participates in Commercial and CRRA initiatives such as OEMS process, trainings, group meetings, staff meetings, and townhalls.
  • Participates in industry associations, conferences, and events.
  • Reports out the findings from the conference and how MPC could be impacted.
  • Follows and provides recommended changes to defined processes and procedures to ensure company compliance.
  • Identifies locations and gathers necessary data to compile reports.
  • Performs quality assurance on data and seeks resolution on discrepancies.
  • Recommends and assists with the development and/or update of written policies and procedures as it relates to regulatory programs.
  • Provides recommendations to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Understands MPC’s current renewable strategy at a high level and applies understanding in developing recommendations for change.
  • Uses strong knowledge of programs to challenge consultants, forming arguments to agencies, and to provide recommendations on potential enhancements to the programs.
  • Collects, shares, and provides guidance based on industry intelligence to benefit decision making for internal MPC stakeholders and participates in cross functional MPC teams.
  • Creates and prioritize recommendations to improve processes and procedures based on collected/shared information to maintain compliance and maximize opportunities.
  • Assists with developing and leading Commercial and CRRA initiatives such as OEMS process, trainings, group meetings, staff meetings, and townhalls as well as other relationship building opportunities.
  • Provides recommendations on which industry associations, conferences, and events to attend based on published information, mentor team members on building their external network.
  • Works with internal stakeholders to identify necessary data and develops quality assurance protocols to ensure data is accurate.
  • Develops and implements quality assurance protocols.
  • Compiles reports and develops procedures/processes for reporting/submittals.
  • Manages internal policies/procedures as it relates to regulatory programs.
  • Independently resolves discrepancies to maintain compliance with regulations.
  • Proactively builds relationships between internal organizations and utilizing a strong understanding of the interplays between internal organizations to identify and recommend improvement ideas that create improve value in line with company strategy.
  • Proactively utilizes an understanding of the company risk profile to evaluate processes and procedures to identify gaps and implements plans to close the gaps across the company as it pertains to applicable programs.
  • Assists in development, training and mentoring of P1 and P2 level employees.
  • Assists with the creation and updating training materials and processes.
