About The Position

This senior level role is for an experienced accounting professional with a strong emphasis on accounting for reinsurance opportunities who is energized by building, evolving and improving processes. As a key contributor to a growing and evolving reinsurance function, this position will play a critical role in supporting new and existing reinsurance arrangements as they are introduced to and evolve with the company. The role will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to onboard new reinsurance opportunities, helping to shape accounting processes, controls, and reporting as the business evolves. While reinsurance accounting will be the primary focus, this position will also collaborate with the broader insurance accounting team to ensure alignment, consistency, and strong internal controls across the organization. This role will review and analyze accounting results, ensuring proper recording of accounting transactions. This role will include preparation and recording of journal entries on complex ledger accounts which may include design and development around computerized entries. The position will play an integral role in development of the financial plan and bi-annual projections including analysis and presentation of results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 6+ years industry experience, including financial analysis.
  • Full ownership of assigned accounting areas (e.g., revenue, accruals, fixed assets, intercompany, reserves).
  • Ability to independently research, interpret, and apply accounting standards to complex or non-routine transactions.
  • Strong professional judgment in evaluating accounting treatment and documenting conclusions.
  • Ability to prepare, review, and approve complex journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Ability to analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and explain drivers to management.
  • Ability to lead month-end close activities for assigned areas and meet accelerated deadlines.
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technologies efficiently, support process improvements, and assist in transitioning to updated systems or tools. Assist in the development of Accountants & Staff Accountants through lessons learned and adoptions.
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting, reporting, and data tools, including (not limited to) Microsoft Excel, used alongside ERP and reporting systems.
  • Ability to evaluate, implement, and optimize financial systems and tools, including (not limited to) Excel-based and system-based solutions.
  • Ability to design, improve, and document accounting processes and controls.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to prepare and review audit schedules and serve as a primary audit contact for assigned areas.
  • Ability to communicate complex accounting matters clearly to Accounting and non-Accounting partners.
  • Ability to mentor and review work of junior accountants, providing constructive feedback.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a track record of implemented process enhancements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Performs a wide range of tasks as dictated by demands and changing conditions and is able to interpret data, problem solves and makes effective decisions with limited or incomplete information. Must have the ability to focus on tasks for extended periods of time. Must be flexible and have the ability to work with a variety of tasks and employees. Ability to plan, organize, be detail and deadline oriented and maintain a high accuracy rate.
  • Continuous sitting for extended periods of time, some standing, walking, bending and reaching. Frequent use of fingers and hands to manipulate computer, telephone and other office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze financial information to report out to Management Committee, Senior Management and Regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare entries and maintain financial recording/reporting for complex general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare intricate expense data for the bi-annual planning and annual budgeting process.
  • Create and prepare financial planning models and other reporting as requested.
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff including training, assignment and monitoring of tasks and evaluating performance.
  • Participate and assist with the interim and year-end audit process including preparation of audit schedules and audit reports.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory filings as needed/required.
  • Maintain technical and professional knowledge through participation in various seminars and training opportunities.
  • Maintain and update departmental process and procedure manuals.
  • Special projects as assigned.
