UPMC Shadyside, a Magnet-designated hospital, is currently hiring a Full-Time Regulatory Specialist to support accreditation, compliance, and quality initiatives across the organization. Schedule: Standard shift is 7:00am to 3:30pm but must be flexible due to the demands of the department when needed. Travel between UPMC Presbyterian and Shadyside required. About the Position: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation, the Regulatory Specialist is responsible for maintaining all Federal and State laws/regulations. The Regulatory Specialist is responsible to have knowledge of and participate in all duties required to satisfy the needs the Regulatory Department divisions which includes but is not limited to the American with Disabilities Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Compliance, Joint Commission, Department of Health, and the Department of Acute Ambulatory Care.

Requirements

  • BSN required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of clinical process and patient flow.
  • Exceptional writing, planning, and organizational skills are required.
  • Preparation and maintenance of regulatory documentation and the ability to appropriately summarize clinical documentation for inclusion of requisite reports is necessary.
  • Strong communication, presentation and computer and database knowledge skills are required.
  • Must be capable of functioning independently with minimal supervision.
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • UPMC approved certification required CPR based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Nice To Haves

  • MSN or Masters in related field preferred.
  • Understanding of CMS requirements preferred
  • Experience participating in Hospital Joint Commission Surveys preferred
  • CJCP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with all department leaders to ensure compliance with all provisions and requirements of federal, state, and accredited agencies are current and placed into practice.
  • Identifies areas of opportunities to enhance programs, policies, procedures, and/or protocols that will enhance compliance measures geared towards the best possible patient outcomes.
  • Prepare regulatory documentation.
  • Support the organizations compliance with all Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations.
  • Support the organizations compliance with all Joint Commission Standards.
  • Support the organizations compliance with non-financial, clinically based CMS regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a resource on a broad range of regulations and standards.
  • Serve as a resource on all aspects of the American with Disabilities Act laws/regulations.
  • Serve as a resource on all aspects of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act laws/regulations.
  • Serve as a resource on all aspects of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Joint Commission laws/regulations.
  • Serve as a resource on all aspects of the Department of Health regulations.
  • Serve as a resource on all aspects of the Department of Acute Ambulatory Care regulations.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments as to the state of compliance to all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Stays abreast of proposed and new regulations and standards and initiates action to ensure compliance.
  • Educate managerial, medical, clinical, and ancillary staff to regulations and standards to develop an informed and effective health care team.
  • Ensure that policies are current and compliant with all requirements.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicates with all levels of the organization and UPMC.
  • Facilitate the accomplishment of organizational goals and imperatives.
  • Assist in review of Health Services Division and Health System Policies.
  • Participate in system Regulatory, Compliance, Safety, and Quality teams.
  • Collaborate with other Regulatory Specialists in establishing successful practices and conducting mock surveys.
