About The Position

The Regulatory Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all food products, labels, specifications, and related documentation comply with applicable federal, state, local, and customer regulatory requirements. This role works cross-functionally to support regulatory compliance for domestic and imported products, manages supplier documentation, and assists with regulatory audits and certifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Regulatory Affairs, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in food regulatory affairs, including food labeling.
  • Experience in managing regulatory documentation and supplier compliance.
  • Experience supporting regulatory inspections, audits, and certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of food federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Working knowledge of quality assurance and quality control principles with a demonstrated ability to maintain high standards of documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Understanding of physical properties and chemical composition of food ingredients; experience with nuts, grains, powders, and flours preferred.
  • Experience with TraceGains or similar regulatory/specification management systems preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Kosher, Organic, Halal, and Non-GMO certifications preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Regulatory & Labeling Compliance Review, revise, and approve product labels to ensure compliance with FDA food labeling regulations.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance of product claims, labeling, specifications, product usage, and food safety statements.
  • Maintain working knowledge of food federal, state, and local regulations and customer-specific requirements.
  • Independently review changes to products, product specifications, ingredients, and manufacturing processes to evaluate regulatory impact.
  • Analyze evolving regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the organization and customers.
  • Specifications & Documentation Create, review, and maintain in-house product specifications and Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
  • Coordinate, review, and manage regulatory documentation for domestic and imported products to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and maintain supplier regulatory documentation, including ingredient statements, allergen disclosures, and compliance certifications.
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and audit-ready regulatory records and documentation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Work cross-functionally with Operations, Purchasing, Customer Service, Sales, and Quality to ensure regulatory compliance across all departments.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to internal stakeholders regarding product changes, customer requests, and compliance inquiries.
  • Participate in product sensory evaluations with cross functional teams.
  • Audits & Certifications Successfully assist the company during multiple annual external regulatory examinations and audits (e.g., FDA inspections, customer audits, GFSI audits).
  • Support and maintain certifications including Kosher, Organic, Halal, and Non-GMO, as applicable.
