About The Position

The Regulatory and Environmental Services division in the City of Lawrence's Municipal Services & Operations department is seeking one intern for the summer of 2026. The intern will assist with projects in the Stormwater Management Program, Composting Facility, Household Hazardous Waste, and other programs. Additional duties will include learning and assisting with a variety of programs. Current students are encouraged to apply. This is a part-time position, up to 25 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Current student enrolled in an Environmental or Science-related field working towards a degree.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Positive, responsible, safety-oriented.
  • Good interpersonal approach with people.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Capable of operating a City vehicle.
  • Required to pass a background check and post offer City physical and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of computers, spreadsheets, and database programs desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff with data collection, investigations, public outreach/education, and documentation, pertaining to the Stormwater Management Plan.
  • Assist with the collection of Household Hazardous Waste and the handling of non-hazardous materials.
  • Assist with providing public services at the Composting Facility.
  • Conduct other Environment, Health and Science program, implementation duties as assigned.
