About The Position

Ergon Inc. seeks a full-time Environmental Regulatory Advisor to join our Operational Excellence Department. The Environmental Regulatory Advisor serves as Ergon's subject-matter expert on environmental laws, regulations, and permitting requirements across all business units. This role ensures company-wide compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations while providing strategic guidance to leadership on regulatory risk, enforcement trends, and operational impacts. In addition, this position oversees environmental remediation activities at legacy and active sites, coordinating technical, legal, and regulatory efforts to manage risk, control costs, and drive timely site closure or regulatory sign-off.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geology, or a related field is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental management or compliance within an industrial, manufacturing, or energy-related environment.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations related to air, water, waste, and spill prevention.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and managing inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, interpret, and advise on environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, CERCLA, state equivalents) affecting Ergon operations.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to business units on permitting, reporting, audits, inspections, and enforcement actions.
  • Serve as a liaison with environmental regulatory agencies at the federal, state, and local levels on large scale environmental incidents
  • Support internal environmental audits and compliance assessments; track and drive corrective actions.
  • Advise leadership on emerging regulatory trends and potential business impacts.
  • Promote environmental awareness and accountability across the organization
  • Oversee environmental remediation projects at legacy, inactive, and active sites, including soil, groundwater, surface water, and waste-related issues.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, legal counsel, and regulators to develop and execute remediation strategies.
  • Review and approve remediation plans, risk assessments, consent orders, and closure documentation.
  • Manage remediation timelines, budgets, and reporting obligations.
  • Support site acquisition and divestiture activities through environmental due diligence and remediation planning.
  • Evaluate environmental liabilities and risks associated with operations, acquisitions, and legacy assets.
  • Support environmental aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and property transactions.
  • Assist with the development of company policies, standards, and training related to environmental compliance and remediation.
  • Prepare briefings and recommendations for senior leadership on complex regulatory or remediation matters.
