About The Position

The Registered Nurse will provide direct patient care in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards, including administering medications, monitoring patient responses to treatment, performing clinical procedures, and responding to medical emergencies. Maintains accurate medical records, ensures patient confidentiality and infection control compliance, and collaborates with physicians and healthcare staff to deliver comprehensive care.

Requirements

  • Must be certified to practice medicine in the state of California.
  • 1+ years of experience
  • CPR certification in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff.
  • Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure.
  • Administer medications as prescribed i.e., by mouth, intradermal, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly
  • Assist with distribution of medications at pill line.
  • Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy.
  • Perform skin testing.
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate.
  • Take medical histories, examine patients, order and interpret laboratory tests, and x-rays.
  • Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and AAAHC policy.
  • Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians.
  • Ensure all sharps are secured, accounted for, stored, and disposed of according to institutional and national policy.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ability and skill to operate an EKG.
  • Clinically manage injuries by bleeding control, bandaging, splinting, and immobilizing.
  • Attend to medical emergencies.
  • Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans
  • Assist in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to the delivery of the health care services.
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
  • Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick calls, which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings, and providing clinical evaluations.
  • Provides a wide range of emergency services in the absence of the physician.
  • Perform duties as required but accept only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with his/her educational preparation, training, experience, and licensure laws.
  • Perform intakes on newly incarcerated or transferred inmates.
  • Prepare medical documentation for transferring inmates/patients.
