About The Position

Physician – FCC Victorville Work Location Federal Correctional Complex-Victorville 13777 Air Expressway Blvd Victorville, CA 92394 Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen. Period of Performance: Estimated: 01 February 2026 – 31 December 2030 Type of Employment: Independent Contractor (1099) Agreement Estimated Pay: TBD Working Hours The Physician will provide services Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays, with hours between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The Physician shall not exceed 40 hours per week. Working hours may be adjusted to meet the variable needs of Federal Correctional Complex (FCC)-Victorville and the unpredictable nature of the correctional environment. Summary of Duties: The Physician will provide comprehensive medical care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications in accordance with the approved formulary, and responding to medical emergencies. Collaborate with healthcare staff and specialists, ensure accurate documentation and quality of care, and adhere to institutional, ethical, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited medical school; MD/DO.
  • Training: Board Certified or Board Eligible, having completed an undergraduate program, ACGME-accredited medical school (MD or DO).
  • Successful completion of a residency program as applicable
  • License: Must be certified to practice medicine in the state of California.
  • Certifications: General Practitioner, at minimum; Board Eligibility/Board Certification preferred or as required by the ordering service.
  • References: Minimum of three (3) professional references
  • Experience: Minimum one year of experience in the respective specialty.
  • Other: Basic and Advanced Life Support certification in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized medical services to outpatients and provide medical care.
  • Specific duties may involve all aspects of healthcare delivery and will work in concert with both institution staff and consultant specialists in various clinical areas.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with current accepted medical practices and procedures.
  • Performs complete physical examinations.
  • Collects comprehensive medical and social history to include a review of all body systems.
  • Performs physical assessment in correlation with historical findings and records preliminary objective findings.
  • Examines and orders appropriate diagnostic testing and provides necessary treatment and/or medications as required.
  • Refers selected cases to consultant specialists when necessary.
  • Refers to inmates requiring hospitalization to a community hospital and to an appropriate physician.
  • Additionally, the clinician may see inmate patients who are in locked status, in their designated housing area, or housed in segregation units.
  • Conduct examinations of personnel as required or by appointment.
  • Approves or disapproves examinations in such cases from a medical viewpoint and in accordance with current established medical standards for employees.
  • Administers or directs administration of both curative and preventative inoculations.
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, and fully utilizes health services for treatment, rehabilitation, and diagnostic modalities.
  • Contract Physician shall only prescribe pharmaceutical drugs that are listed in the approved Bureau of Prisons.
  • Formulary. Requests for exemptions shall be submitted to the Clinical Director, who shall obtain the required approvals.
  • Assist with CPR, utilization of an AED, and other basic first aid skills within the scope of their practice during emergencies until the arrival of the EMS crew.
  • Ensures that proper evaluations and treatments are carried out and documented.
  • The incumbent shall constantly monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care, providing data to the institution's Quality Assurance Committee and other agencies or committees as required.
