Registered Nurse - SANE
About The Position
This position will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate, expert care to the sexual assault patient. This will include a forensic exam, pregnancy prophylaxis and prophylaxis for sexually transmitted infections, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support and participation in legal proceedings. This position is expected to follow protocols established by the Forensic Program Coordinator, Medical Director and/or leadership within the Emergency Department for which the SANE is employed. This position is employed by Mosaic Health System.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
- Must complete the initial state minimum 40 hour SANE training and/or provide proof of completion of an adequate SANE training as determined by the Forensic Program Coordinator.
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure- Licensed in State of Missouri or Kansas, depending upon designated work location, required.
- BLS required within 90 days of hire.
Nice To Haves
- Nursing experience and previous experience as a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Actively supports the goals and mission of the Forensic Program.
- Displays a positive and compassionate attitude towards patients, caregivers, and community personal, always serving as a professional role model.
- Coordinate care from all agencies involved in assisting the sexual assault patient and coordinate referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up as needed for each patient.
- Perform and document a medical-forensic examination on sexual assault patients. This includes obtaining a medical-forensic history; complete a physical and forensic evidence collection examination which includes: Head-to-Toe assessment for trauma, use of a vaginal speculum, and other tools to assist in observing, assessing and documenting the injuries of the patient with the use of photography.
- Maintain chain of custody for each sexual assault exam and adhere to evidence protocols.
